# 4️⃣ Adding Your Terms

Your Legal Documents.

Every competition site needs clear **Terms & Conditions** and a **Privacy Policy** before it opens to customers. Your terms set out the rules of your competitions (including how the free postal entry route works), and your privacy policy explains how you look after customer data.

### Two ways of making Terms and Conditions

#### Option 1

Contacting a solicitor such as David from gridlaw\.com (who specialises in competition websites). He has a template to get you approved terms and conditions, and you will work with him until you are both happy. These documents are then copied and pasted onto the site. Should there be other documents to add, you can create a new page for each one and paste them in (see [Manage Your Pages](/customise-your-site/manage-your-pages.md)).

#### Option 2

Review the terms and conditions from multiple competition websites to understand common practices and requirements. Use these insights to draft your own terms and conditions as a starting point. This will be enough to get you started, but as you scale, consider consulting with David from gridlaw\.com about his product for further guidance.

**Do not forget your postal entry section.** When a customer opens the **Free Postal Entry** tab on a competition and you have not written your own free entry wording, they are invited to read the postal entry route in your Terms & Conditions. Make sure your terms include a clear section explaining how to enter by post. See [Free Entry](/additional-settings/free-entry.md).

### Adding to the website

Your site already has a **Terms & Conditions** page and a **Privacy Policy** page. You just need to replace the placeholder text with your own.

1. In the **admin panel**, look in the left hand menu under **Content** and click **Pages**.
2. Find **Terms & Conditions** in the list and click **Edit**.
3. In the **Blocks** area, click into the **Wysiwyg** block (the text editor). It contains the placeholder text "Important. Update your terms in the admin area."
4. Delete the placeholder text, then paste in your terms.
5. Use the toolbar to tidy up the formatting and add any links you need.
6. Click **Save** at the top of the page.
7. Go back to **Pages**, click **Edit** on **Privacy Policy**, and repeat the same steps for your privacy policy.

Once saved, both pages are linked automatically from the **Support** column in your site footer. You do not need to add the links yourself.
