# SMS

Send bulk text messages to your customers with our white label SMS service, and prepare your customer list safely.

***

### Why SMS?

A text message is a quick shot of traffic to your website when you need it most. When a competition is about to end and everyone needs to know, an SMS is hard to ignore.

That is why we offer our own white label SMS service. White label means the messages come from your business, not from us. Whether you already send texts or are thinking about starting, we will help you get set up.

{% hint style="info" %}
**SMS is arranged with our team, not from a setting in your admin panel.** There is no SMS switch to turn on. Email Andy at <andy@rafflex.io> to get started.
{% endhint %}

***

### How to get set up

1. **Email Andy** at <andy@rafflex.io> and tell him you would like to start sending SMS.
2. **Get a quote.** Andy takes you through the initial process and quotes you based on how many messages you expect to send.
3. **Prepare your customer list.** Export your customers from your admin panel (see [Export your customer list](#export-your-customer-list) below), then remove anyone who has not agreed to receive marketing.
4. **Send your messages.** Either ask Andy to schedule your SMS for you, or learn to send them yourself from the SMS dashboard.
5. **Top up.** Email Andy whenever you need more credits to send.
6. **Watch the sales roll in!**

### Export your customer list

You can download your customers' phone numbers from your admin panel at any time.

1. In your admin panel, click **Users** in the left-hand menu (under **Management**).
2. Click **Export user data** at the top right of the list.
3. Choose a **From** and **To** date. Customers who registered between these dates are included. To include everyone, set **From** to the date your site launched.
4. Click **Submit**. A CSV file (a spreadsheet file you can open in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets) downloads straight away.

The file includes each customer's email address, phone number, name and address, the date they joined, and their site credit balance. You can read more about it on [Customers](/managing-your-site/customers.md#exporting-customer-data).

{% hint style="danger" %}
**The export does not show who agreed to marketing.** It lists **everyone** who registered in your chosen dates, including customers who never opted in and customers who have since unsubscribed. Do not upload the whole file to your SMS dashboard. Only text customers who have agreed to receive marketing from you, and remove anyone who has asked you to stop.
{% endhint %}

### Tips for effective SMS

* **Keep it short.** Say what is happening and when, for example "The £5,000 cash draw closes at 9pm tonight. Last chance to enter!"
* **Include a link** to the competition, so customers can tap straight through.
* **Time it well.** The last few hours before a competition closes are usually the most effective time to send.
* **Do not overdo it.** Texts feel personal. Sending too many is the quickest way to get customers asking you to stop.
* **Always tell people how to opt out,** and act on opt outs quickly.

### Prefer to send SMS from Klaviyo?

If you use Klaviyo, Rafflex can pass your customers' mobile numbers and SMS consent to Klaviyo automatically when they opt in, so you can send texts from there instead. See [Klaviyo Integration](/marketing/sms-and-email/klaviyo-integration.md).
