# Safe Cracker

A safe-cracking themed game where customers crack open a wall of safes to reveal their instant win results.

***

### What Is It?

Safe Cracker turns each ticket into a locked safe. Straight after checkout, your customer sees a wall of safes, one for every ticket they bought. They click a safe, the dial spins, the door swings open, and inside is either a prize or an empty safe. It is quick to play, easy to understand, and works well whether someone buys one ticket or fifty.

The game appears on the order confirmation page (the "thank you" page customers see after paying), underneath their ticket numbers.

{% hint style="info" %}
Like every game type, Safe Cracker only appears when the competition has at least one instant win prize. If you have not added any yet, see [Add Instant Wins](/create-your-first-raffle/add-instant-wins.md).
{% endhint %}

### How It Works

This is what your customer sees and does:

1. After checking out, the customer sees a black panel headed **Safe Cracker** with the message "Crack the safes to reveal your prizes!"
2. Below it is a grid of safes. Each safe shows its ticket number in the top corner, so the customer knows which ticket they are opening.
3. The customer clicks or taps a safe. The open sound plays, the dial spins and the door swings open.
4. Inside the safe is either:
   * **A prize.** The prize name is shown with the word **WINNER!**, and the win sound plays.
   * **Nothing.** The safe shows **Empty**.
5. The customer carries on opening safes in any order they like.
6. If they would rather not open them one by one, they can press **Crack All Safes** to open every remaining safe in quick succession.
7. A moment after the last safe opens, a **Heist Complete!** summary appears. If they won, it says how many prizes they found and lists each winning ticket number with its prize. If not, it reads "The safes were empty this time. Better luck next heist!"

{% hint style="info" %}
When a customer uses **Crack All Safes**, the safes open one after another without the open sound, so the page does not play dozens of sounds at once. The win sound still plays for every safe that contains a prize.
{% endhint %}

### Setting It Up

1. In the admin panel, open **Competitions** in the left-hand menu and click the competition you want to use.
2. In the right-hand column, find the **Game Type** dropdown and choose **Safe Cracker**.
3. A **Safe Cracker Settings** panel appears underneath the dropdown. Add your custom sounds here if you want them (see below). Both are optional.
4. Click **Save changes** (or **Create** if this is a brand new competition).
5. Make sure the competition has at least one instant win prize, otherwise the game will not appear for customers.

### Customisation Options

Safe Cracker has two optional sound settings. They live in the **Safe Cracker Settings** panel on the competition's edit page. If you leave either one empty, the built-in default sound is used, so the game always works out of the box.

| Setting | What it does | File type | Max size |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | --------- | -------- |
| **Custom Open Sound (MP3)** | Played the moment a customer clicks a safe to open it. | MP3       | 200KB    |
| **Custom Win Sound (MP3)**  | Played when a safe opens and there is a prize inside.  | MP3       | 200KB    |

To add a sound:

1. Click the upload box under the setting's name, or drag your MP3 file onto it.
2. Wait for the file to finish uploading.
3. Click **Save changes** at the bottom of the competition page.

To go back to the default sound, remove the file from the upload box and click **Save changes**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Upload rejected?** The file must be an MP3 and no bigger than 200KB. Short clips work best anyway. A sound of one or two seconds is ideal for a click or a celebration. If your file is too large, trim it down or export it at a lower quality in your audio editor, then try again.
{% endhint %}

The look of the safes themselves is built in and cannot be changed. Winning safes show the **prize name** you entered for each instant win, so give your prizes short, clear names (for example "£100 Cash" rather than a long description) so they fit neatly inside the safe.

### Tips

* **Great for medium sized orders.** Customers enjoy opening safes one at a time, and **Crack All Safes** saves time for anyone who bought a lot of tickets.
* **Keep sounds short and punchy.** Customers might open many safes in a row, so a long open sound can quickly feel repetitive.
* **Check it on a phone.** Most customers will play on mobile, where the safes sit two to a row.

### Want to try it first?

Once the competition has been saved at least once, a **Preview Game** button appears just under the **Game Type** dropdown whenever Safe Cracker is selected. Save any other changes to the competition first, because the button takes you to a new page. Then click it to open the **Game Preview** page, where you can play the game with sample tickets and hear your custom sounds before any customer sees them. Nothing is entered and no order is created.

On the preview page, the **Game Settings** sit on the left and the **Live Preview** on the right. Any change you make shows in the preview straight away. Use the desktop and mobile icons to see how it looks on each, press the replay button to play it again, and click **Save** when you are happy.
