# Pot Drop

A gravity-based game where ceramic pots fall, shatter on impact and reveal each ticket's result automatically.

***

### What Is It?

Pot Drop is a lively, hands-off reveal game. Every ticket becomes a ceramic pot. Once the customer presses start, the pots rain down from the top of the screen, shatter on impact in a burst of clay coloured pieces, and reveal whether that ticket has won. Winning pots explode in a shower of colour and leave the prize name floating on screen for a few seconds.

Because the pots drop by themselves, it suits customers who have bought lots of tickets and want something fun to watch without having to click through every one.

The game appears on the order confirmation page (the "thank you" page customers see after paying), underneath their ticket numbers.

In the **Game Type** dropdown, this game appears as **Pot Drop (Auto Reveal)**.

### How It Works

This is what your customer sees and does:

1. After checking out, the customer sees the game area with a **Pot Drop Game** box in the middle. The game behind it is blurred until they start.
2. Under **Drop Speed** they choose how fast the pots fall (see [Speed options](#speed-options) below).
3. They press **Start Game**.
4. Pots begin falling from the top of the screen at random spots, each one tilting as it drops.
5. Each pot shatters when it hits the bottom, with the shatter sound and a burst of pieces.
   * **Winning pot.** The win sound plays, a colourful celebration burst appears, and the prize name pops up where the pot landed. It stays on screen for a few seconds.
   * **Losing pot.** The pot simply shatters and disappears.
6. A progress bar underneath the game shows how many pots have dropped out of the total (for example "12 / 40").
7. While the game is running, buttons in the top corner let the customer **Pause** (and then **Resume**) or **Skip** straight to the end.
8. When every pot has dropped, the customer sees a **Winning Tickets Summary** listing each winning ticket number and its prize. If there were no wins, it shows "All Pots Dropped!", "0 Instant Wins Found" and "Better Luck Next time!"

#### Speed options

| Speed      | Pots per second |
| ---------- | --------------- |
| **Slow**   | 3               |
| **Normal** | 8               |
| **Fast**   | 16              |

{% hint style="info" %}
If the customer presses **Start Game** without choosing a speed, the pots drop at a quick pace close to **Fast**. Customers who want to watch each pot more closely should pick **Slow** first.
{% endhint %}

### Setting It Up

1. In the admin panel, open **Competitions** in the left-hand menu and click the competition you want to use.
2. In the right-hand column, find the **Game Type** dropdown and choose **Pot Drop (Auto Reveal)**.
3. A **Pot Drop Settings** panel appears underneath the dropdown. Add your own pot image, sounds and background here if you want them (see below). All of them are optional.
4. Click **Save changes** (or **Create** if this is a brand new competition).
5. Make sure the competition has at least one instant win prize, otherwise the game will not appear for customers. See [Add Instant Wins](/create-your-first-raffle/add-instant-wins.md).

### Customisation Options

Pot Drop has four optional settings in the **Pot Drop Settings** panel on the competition's edit page. If you leave any of them empty, the built-in default is used, so the game always works out of the box.

| Setting | What it does | File type | Max size |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------- | ------------ |
| **Ceramic Pot Image** | Replaces the default pot with your own picture. | PNG or JPEG | 500KB |
| **Custom Shatter Sound (MP3)** | Played every time a pot breaks.                                       | MP3               | 200KB        |
| **Custom Win Sound (MP3)**     | Played when a pot with a prize inside breaks.                         | MP3               | 200KB        |
| **Background Image** | The picture behind the whole game area. Recommended size 1920x1080px. | PNG, JPEG or WebP | 2048KB (2MB) |

To add any of these:

1. Click the upload box under the setting's name, or drag your file onto it.
2. Wait for the file to finish uploading.
3. Click **Save changes** at the bottom of the competition page.

To go back to the default, remove the file from the upload box and click **Save changes**.

#### Getting your pot image right

* **Use a PNG with a transparent background.** The pot is shown quite small as it falls, so anything around it (such as a white box) will be very noticeable against your background. A transparent PNG looks clean.
* **Keep it roughly upright and centred.** The game adds its own tilt as each pot falls.
* **It does not have to be a pot.** Any object that "breaks" works, for example a piggy bank, a treasure chest or your own branded item.

#### Getting your background right

* Aim for **1920x1080px**, a standard widescreen size. The image is scaled to fill the whole game area and centred, so the edges may be cropped on narrower screens such as phones.
* Keep the important part of the image in the **middle**, and avoid text near the edges.
* Choose something that contrasts well with your pot so the falling pots stand out.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Upload rejected?** Check the file type and size against the table above. The pot image must be PNG or JPEG (not WebP), sounds must be MP3, and each file must be under its size limit. If a file is too big, resize or compress it and try again.
{% endhint %}

### Tips

* **Keep the shatter sound very short.** It plays for every single pot, sometimes many times a second, so a long sound quickly becomes noisy. A quick crack or pop works best.
* **Make the win sound special.** It only plays on a winning pot, so this is your chance to use something celebratory.
* **Short prize names read best.** The prize name pops up over the spot where the pot landed, so "£100 Cash" is easier to read at a glance than a long description.

### Want to try it first?

Once the competition has been saved at least once, a **Preview Game** button appears just under the **Game Type** dropdown whenever Pot Drop is selected. Save any other changes to the competition first, because the button takes you to a new page. Then click it to open the **Game Preview** page, where you can play the game with sample tickets and see your custom pot, sounds and background before any customer sees them. Nothing is entered and no order is created.

On the preview page, the **Game Settings** sit on the left and the **Live Preview** on the right. Any change you make shows in the preview straight away, so it is a great place to try out different pot images and backgrounds. Use the desktop and mobile icons to check both views, press the replay button to play it again, and click **Save** when you are happy.
