# Pop

A grid of balloons (or your own icon), one for every ticket. Customers pop each one to reveal a prize or "No Win".

***

### What Is It?

A grid of clickable icons, one for each ticket in the customer's order. By default the icons are balloons. Customers tap or click each balloon to pop it and reveal whether that ticket has won a prize.

In the **Game Type** dropdown, this game is called **Pop**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Like every game type, Pop only appears once the competition has at least one [instant win prize](/create-your-first-raffle/add-instant-wins.md). Without one, customers simply see their ticket numbers.
{% endhint %}

***

### How It Works

1. After checking out, the customer lands on their order confirmation page and sees a grid of balloons. Each balloon represents one of their tickets, and shows its ticket number (unless you have chosen to hide the numbers).
2. The customer clicks or taps a balloon to pop it.
3. The balloon bursts with a pop sound and reveals the result: either the **prize name** or **No Win**. Winning pops play a different, celebratory sound.
4. They carry on popping until every balloon has gone.
5. If any tickets won, a summary appears underneath with **Congratulations!**, how many prizes they won, and a list of each winning ticket number and its prize. It also reminds them to follow the instructions emailed to them to claim their prize.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Lots of tickets?** A control panel above the balloons stays in view as the customer scrolls:

* **Autoplay** pops every balloon automatically. The same button then switches to **Pause** and **Resume**.
* The **Speed** slider sets how fast Autoplay works, from **0.5x** up to **20x**.
* The speaker button turns the sound on or off.
  {% endhint %}

### Setting It Up

1. In the **admin panel**, find the **Competitions** group in the left-hand menu and click **Competitions**.
2. Click **Edit** on the competition you want to use (or click **New Competition** to start a fresh one).
3. In the right-hand column, open the **Game Type** dropdown and choose **Pop**.
4. A panel called **Pop Settings** appears underneath. Every option in it is optional, so you can leave it as it is to use the default balloons, background and sounds.
5. Click **Save changes** (or **Create** on a new competition).
6. Make sure the competition has at least one instant win. See [Add Instant Wins](/create-your-first-raffle/add-instant-wins.md).

### Customisation Options

All of these options live in the **Pop Settings** panel, under the **Game Type** dropdown. If you leave any of them empty, the built-in default is used.

| Setting | What it does | File rules |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Hide Ticket Numbers** | A toggle. Switch it on to hide the ticket numbers on the balloons for a cleaner look. Off by default. | Not applicable. |
| **Pop Image Override** | Replaces the default balloon with your own icon. | **PNG** only, max **500KB**. |
| **Background Image** | An image shown behind the balloons. Without one, a dark background is used. | **PNG**, **JPEG** (or JPG) or **WebP**, max **2MB**. |
| **Custom Lose Sound (MP3)** | Plays when a balloon pops with no win. | **MP3** only, max **200KB**. |
| **Custom Win Sound (MP3)**  | Plays when a balloon pops to reveal a prize.                                                          | **MP3** only, max **200KB**.                         |

#### Hide Ticket Numbers

When this is off (the default), each balloon shows its ticket number, so customers can see exactly which ticket they are popping. Switch it on if you prefer a cleaner grid, or if the numbers clash with your own icon. The prize or **No Win** result is always shown after a balloon pops, whichever you choose.

#### Pop Image Override

Use your own icon in place of the balloon. Good examples are a present, a star, an egg, a gem, or anything that fits your brand or the competition's theme.

* Use a **PNG with a transparent background**, so only the icon itself shows on the grid.
* A **square, or slightly tall,** image works best, as each icon sits in its own space in the grid.
* Keep the file small (under **500KB**). A simple icon a few hundred pixels across is plenty.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Showing ticket numbers on a custom icon?** The numbers are written in **black** across the upper part of the icon. If your icon is dark, the numbers will be hard to read. Either choose a lighter icon, leave space in the upper middle for the number, or switch on **Hide Ticket Numbers**.
{% endhint %}

#### Background Image

Add your own background behind the balloons to match your branding or a competition theme. A busy photo can make the balloons hard to see, so a soft, darker or blurred image usually works best.

#### Custom Lose Sound and Custom Win Sound

Swap the default pop sounds for your own. Each sound must be an **MP3** file of **200KB** or less.

* **Keep sounds short.** A pop sound plays every time a balloon bursts, and with Autoplay at high speed that can be several times a second. Half a second to a second is ideal.
* **Make the win sound stand out**, so customers know they have won before they even read the result.
* If your file is too large, shorten it or export it at a lower quality. A free audio editor (such as Audacity) can do both.

### Want to try it first?

Once the competition has been saved, a **Preview Game** button appears just under the **Game Type** dropdown. Click it to open the **Game Preview** page, where you can play Pop with your own icon, background and sounds before any customer sees it.

* The **Game Settings** panel on the left holds the same **Pop Settings** described above. Any change you make, including a new upload, shows in the preview straight away.
* The **Live Preview** on the right plays the game with a few sample tickets, some of them winners. Nothing is entered and no one is charged.
* Use the desktop and mobile buttons above the preview to see both layouts, and the circular arrow to replay the game.
* Click **Save** when you are happy. Your changes are not applied to the competition until you do. Click **Back to competition** to return to the edit page.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The preview page has its own **Game Type** dropdown, so you can compare different games. If you change it and then click **Save**, the competition's game type changes too. A message under the page title warns you when this will happen.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
The preview uses your real instant win prizes, so it is most useful once you have added them. If the competition has no instant wins yet, it shows some example prizes instead so you can still check the look.
