# Loot Boxes

A loot box opening game where a strip of prizes spins past and lands on each ticket's result.

***

### What Is It?

Loot Boxes is a case opening style game, inspired by the unboxing videos many of your customers will already know. Each ticket is a loot box. When the customer opens one, a strip of prize tiles races past a centre marker, slows down, and lands on their result. It builds real anticipation, and because the strip is made from your own prizes and pictures, it shows off everything they could win.

The game appears on the order confirmation page (the "thank you" page customers see after paying), underneath their ticket numbers.

For the spinning strip to look its best, add **at least 3 instant win prizes** to your competition. The strip is built from your prizes, and each prize adds two tiles: a **No Win** tile followed by the prize itself. With only one or two prizes there are very few tiles, so the strip can look sparse and the spin less convincing, especially on larger screens. Three or more prizes gives it enough tiles to spin smoothly, and the more prizes you add, the richer it looks.

### How It Works

This is what your customer sees and does:

1. After checking out, the customer sees a **Loot Boxes!** panel. It shows how many boxes they have left (for example "5 Boxes Remaining") and which one they are about to open ("Opening Loot #1").
2. In the middle is the strip of tiles, with a marker line down the centre. Before the first box is opened, the tiles are blurred to keep the suspense.
3. The customer presses **OPEN LOOT!**. A spinning sound plays and the strip whizzes past for a few seconds before slowing to a stop.
4. The tile that stops under the marker is the result:
   * **A prize.** A green label with the prize name pops up above the strip and a success sound plays.
   * **No win.** A red **Bad Luck** label pops up.
5. The customer presses **OPEN LOOT!** again for the next box, and so on until every box is open.
6. If they would rather skip the animation, they can press **Reveal All** at any time to jump straight to their results.
7. Once every box is open, a summary appears. If they won, **Loot Box Summary** lists each winning box number (for example "Loot #3") with its prize and a **WON!** badge. If not, it reads **Better Luck Next Time**.

### Setting It Up

1. In the admin panel, open **Competitions** in the left-hand menu and click the competition you want to use.
2. In the right-hand column, find the **Game Type** dropdown and choose **Loot Boxes**.
3. Click **Save changes** (or **Create** if this is a brand new competition).
4. Add your instant win prizes (at least three for the best effect) and give each one a picture. See [Add Instant Wins](/create-your-first-raffle/add-instant-wins.md).

Loot Boxes has no settings panel of its own. Everything it shows comes from your instant win prizes.

### Customisation Options

#### Prize names and pictures

Each prize tile on the strip shows the prize's picture and its name, taken straight from your instant win prizes:

* When you add prizes in the **Create Instant Wins** builder, upload a picture in the **Image** box next to each prize (PNG or JPG, up to 872KB).
* When you edit an existing prize later, the same picture appears as **Featured Image**, where you can replace or remove it.

The **No Win** tiles use a standard built-in picture, so you do not need to provide one.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Give every prize a picture.** A prize without an image will show an empty tile on the strip, which spoils the effect. Square images work best, because each tile shows a small square picture with the prize name underneath.
{% endhint %}

#### Sounds

The spinning sound and the success sound are built in and cannot be changed for this game.

### Tips

* **Use clear, short prize names.** The name sits under a small picture on each tile, so long names get cut off. "PS5" or "£250 Cash" reads better than a full description.
* **Bright, simple pictures stand out.** The tiles race past quickly, so bold product shots on a plain background are easiest to recognise.
* **More prizes, more excitement.** Every extra prize adds more variety to the strip, so customers see a wider spread of possible wins as it spins.

### Want to try it first?

Once the competition has been saved at least once, a **Preview Game** button appears just under the **Game Type** dropdown whenever Loot Boxes is selected. Save any other changes to the competition first, because the button takes you to a new page. Then click it to open the **Game Preview** page, where you can play the game with sample tickets before any customer sees it. Nothing is entered and no order is created.

The preview uses your real instant win prizes and pictures. If you have not added any prizes yet, it fills the strip with sample prizes instead, so add your own prizes first to see exactly what customers will see. Use the desktop and mobile icons to check both views, and press the replay button to play it again.
