# Category Performance Report

Compare how your product categories perform against each other. See revenue, tickets sold, average sell-through, how quickly competitions sell out and a performance rating for every category.

***

The Category Performance report compares your [product categories](/create-your-first-raffle/product-categories.md) side by side, as a spreadsheet (CSV file). For each category, you can see how many competitions it holds, the revenue and tickets they brought in, the average sell-through rate (the percentage of available tickets that were taken), how quickly competitions sold out, and an overall performance rating.

Use it to:

* Understand which types of prize your customers love most, for example cars, cash or tech.
* Decide which categories to run more often, and which may need a rethink.
* Check whether a new category is pulling its weight compared with your established ones.

### How to Generate

1. In the **admin panel**, open **Analytics** from the left-hand menu.
2. Click the **Download Reports** button at the top of the page. This opens the **Downloads** page.
3. Click **Generate Report**.
4. Choose **Category Performance** from the menu. It sits in the group with **Product Performance**.
5. Set your **Date Range** (see below).
6. Click **Submit**.

You will see a **Download Started** message. The report is prepared in the background, and you will receive an email titled **Your Product Category Performance Report is Ready** with a **View Downloads** button. You can also stay on the **Downloads** page and click **Download** next to the report once its status shows as complete. Finished files stay on the Downloads page for 30 days.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Can't see the Download Reports button?** Contact Rafflex support and we will help you get access. If you are a staff member and cannot see **Analytics** in the menu at all, your account probably has the **Restrict Financials** restriction, which blocks Analytics and all downloads. The site owner can change this, as explained in [Staff Accounts and Access](/managing-your-site/customers/staff-accounts-and-access.md).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
You can have up to 3 reports being prepared at once. If you see **Report Limit Reached**, wait for one to finish before starting another.
{% endhint %}

#### Date Range

Choose one of the ready made ranges: **Last 1 Day**, **Last 3 Days**, **Last 5 Days**, **Last 7 Days**, **Last 14 Days**, **Last 30 Days** (the default) or **Last 60 Days**.

To pick your own dates, choose **Custom**. Two date boxes appear, **From Date** and **To Date**. A custom range can cover up to 3 months, and neither date can be in the future.

**How the date range works in this report.** A competition is included if it was **created** in your admin panel during your dates. This is the day you first saved it, not its start date or end date. If you duplicate a competition, the copy counts from the day you made the duplicate.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**The figures are for the whole life of each competition.** The date range only decides **which competitions** are counted. Revenue and tickets for those competitions always cover everything they have sold, including sales made after your dates.
{% endhint %}

### What's Included

Each row represents one product category. The categories with the most revenue are at the top. Every category you have set up appears, even if none of its competitions fall within your dates. Those categories show zeros.

### Reading the Report Fairly

A few things can make a category look better or worse than it really is. Keep these in mind before you make decisions.

* **Competitions in more than one category are counted in each.** If a competition sits in both **Cars** and **Tech**, its revenue and tickets are added to both rows. That means the Total Revenue column across all categories can add up to more than you actually took.
* **Running competitions pull the average down.** A competition that is only halfway through has a lower sell-through rate than it will finish with. For the fairest comparison, choose dates where the competitions have finished, for example a period from a couple of months ago.
* **Every competition counts equally in the average.** A small competition with 100 tickets that sold out counts just as much towards **Average Sell-Through Rate** as a 10,000 ticket competition. Look at **Total Revenue** and **Total Tickets Sold** alongside the rating to get the full picture.
* **Small categories can swing a lot.** A category with one or two competitions can jump from **Excellent** to **Needs Improvement** with a single result. Give more weight to categories with plenty of competitions.
* **Empty categories show Needs Improvement.** A category with no competitions created in your dates has nothing to average, so it shows **Needs Improvement** with zeros. That does not mean it performed badly.

For a closer look at the individual competitions behind a category's figures, run the [Product Performance](/downloads-and-reports/downloads/product-performance-report.md) report for the same dates.
